DFD Russell Medical Centers (DFD) is pleased to announce the recent addition of board-certified physician assistant John F. Wironen, Ph.D., PA-C, to the DFD team.
Wironen received his master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the University of New England in 2021 and the spent the past two years as a primary care provider at Sebasticook Family Care in Pittsfield, Maine. This well-rounded practitioner also holds a Ph.D. in material science and engineering and a master’s degree in elementary education, both from the University of Florida.
After receiving his Ph.D., Wironen practiced professionally as an engineer for seven years, becoming director of research and development at a medical device firm, and he holds over 65 patents for devices and materials use in medical practice today. From 2004 to 2017 he taught math and science for grades 1 through 8 after falling in love with teaching as an adjunct professor and as a director at Florida’s Camp for Children and Youth with Diabetes.
“I believe that preventative care is the most important form of healthcare,” says Wironen. “There are three prescriptions which can help every patient: Exercise, a healthy diet, and a healthy social life. Most health problems stem from an issue associated with some dysfunction in one of these pillars of health.”
Wironen specializes in family and rural medicine, with a particular interest pediatrics, diabetes and weight management, and orthopedics—having worked with orthopedic surgeons around the world for over 28 years, observing and advising on certain aspects of materials and procedures. He is certified in advanced cardiac life support, basic life support, and NIH Stroke-Scale 1st Certification, among other certifications.
Wironen is accepting new patients at the DFD Leeds location. Appointments can be made by calling 207-524-3501.
