Gary Rivard, D.O.
Gary Rivard, D.O., joined DFD Russell Medical Centers’ Turner location in 2017 as medical director. Dr. Rivard earned his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a fellowship in academic medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a fellowship in executive leadership through the Hanley Foundation. Board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Osteopathic Family Medicine, Dr. Rivard brings with him a wealth of diverse experience in family medicine. Dr. Rivard specializes in chronic disease management, musculoskeletal medicine, and contraceptive care. He is skilled at patient education and strives to engage patients and families so that they may have a clear understanding of their health issues and/or the rationale behind treatment options.
Kassie Skvorak, PA-C
Kassie Skvorak, PA-C, joined DFD Russell Medical Centers in September 2017. She attended the University of New England where she received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology and then earned her Master of Science as a Physician Assistant, also from the University of New England. Kassie, born and raised in Maine, is excited to continue practicing here, serving our community, and is currently seeing patients of all ages at the Turner and Monmouth offices.
Leah Hebert, FNP
Leah Hebert, FNP, joined DFD Russell Medical Centers in July of 2017. Previously, she had been practicing at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Orangeburg and Spartanburg, South Carolina where she was an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Prior to that, she practiced in Bangor, Maine. Leah earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine in Augusta with a focus on mental health and completed the Options Program at the University of Southern Maine to earn her master’s as a family nurse practitioner. A Nationally Certified Nurse Practitioner with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Leah’s specialties include pediatrics, women’s health, and preventative medicine with an emphasis on nutrition and fitness. She is Nexplanon and Mirena certified, and performs many minor surgeries such as joint injections, biopsies and other skin care procedures in the Monmouth office.
Karen Bronk, LCSW
Karen Bronk has been with DFD Russell Medical Centers since May 2002. She received her master’s degree in social work from the University of New England in 1993. Her previous professional experience includes time at Spurwink School as a therapist, Androscoggin Home Health as a social worker and Tri County Mental Health as a children’s counselor. Karen enjoys working with community members of all age groups.
Shannon M. Deschenes, D.O.Accepting New Patients
Shannon M. Deschenes, D.O., joined DFD Russell Medical Center in March, 2011. Dr. Deschenes has been board certified in Family Medicine since 1998. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology at California State University, Chico where she graduated with honors. She concurrently worked for the Women’s Health Specialists organization for years as a women’s health care worker. She educated women on anatomy, physiology and family planning. Dr. Deschenes attended medical school at the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine where she received the National Osteopathic Women Physicians Association Senior Scholastic Achievement Award. She was also honored by the academic staff as “the physician they would most like to have as their own”. She received her residency certification in Family Medicine in 1997 at Central Maine Medical Center’s Family Practice residency program. Dr. Deschenes practiced at Lisbon Family Practice after completion of her residency and has practiced with CMMC at their Mechanic Falls and subsequent Lewiston locations. She is on the Board of Directors of the Maine Osteopathic Association and enjoys teaching. Dr. Deschenes currently resides in Lewiston with her husband Paul and their daughter Olivia and multiple pets. She enjoys gardening, traveling and cultural exploration as well as music and language. Dr. Deschenes has earned a very loyal patient following by taking the time to genuinely listen to her patients’ concerns.
Nora Gross, LCSW
Behavioral health provider, Nora Gross joined DFD Russell Medical Centers in July 2016. Nora holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of New England and has professional experience in behavioral health counseling to patients in St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center’s primary care offices. She also provided community-based counseling through Spurwink Services, case management at the Preble Street Teen Center and volunteered her time and services at The Center for Grieving Children. Nora enjoys providing care to patients of all ages and is currently working out of our Monmouth office.
Laurie Anne Huntress, M.D.
Laurie Huntress, MD, joined DFD Russell Medical Centers in January 2005. Dr. Huntress graduated from Bowdoin College with a bachelor of science degree in neuroscience and received her doctor of medicine from the University of Vermont. She completed her residency through Eastern Maine Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program.
Tiffany Leach, PA-CAccepting New Patients
Tiffany Leach, PA-C, joined DFD Russell Medical Centers in December 2013. She attended Simmons College where she received her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and earned her master’s degree as a physician assistant from the University of New England. Tiffany is proud to be working for a rural community in her home state and currently sees patients of all ages at the Turner office.
Anthony Martin, PA-C
Anthony Martin, PA-C joined DFD Russell Medical Center in the Monmouth location in August 2013. Before DFD, Anthony worked for the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, Arizona. The Hopi Health Care Center is a rural Indian Health Service site where Anthony performed a full spectrum family medicine clinic and urgent care coverage. His experience includes acute and chronic disease management with pediatric, adult, prenatal, women’s health, geriatric, and wound care patients. Anthony received both his bachelor’s in medical biology and master’s as a Physician Assistant from the University of New England, in Portland, Maine. Anthony was a National Health Services Corps Scholarship Student. He has enjoyed moving back to Maine and practicing at DFD in a rural community health care setting.
Heather Robertson, PACAccepting New Patients
Heather Robertson, MHS, PA-C, has joined DFD Russell Medical Centers in June, 2014. She’s been practicing medicine since 2001 upon graduation from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Most of her career has been in Family Practice, but she also worked in Ear, Nose and Throat, and in Wound Care/Hyperbaric Medicine while in Alexandria, Virginia. Heather also serves on the Maine Physician Assistant Board of Directors. Heather enjoys very long walks (ask her about the Camino), kayaking, reading, and visiting her three kids and two grandchildren who “live too far away.”
Robin Rockett, LCSW
Behavioral health provider Robin Rockett joined DFD Russell Medical Center in August 2015. Robin holds a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of New England. Her professional experience includes behavioral health counseling to patients at St. Mary’s Hospital and Central Maine Bariatric Surgery. She has also maintained her own private counseling practice in the Lewiston-Auburn area for nearly 20 years. Robin believes that with the right circumstances and support, people can meet life’s challenges and yield positive change.
John Yindra, M.D.
Dr. Yindra rejoined DFD Russell Medical Center in 2013, having previously served as a staff physician and Medical Director at DFD. He has served in an assortment of medical director and physician roles throughout his career. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Delaware, and earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Yindra will be seeing patients of all ages at the Monmouth location.
